Short description
The opinion expressed in the past about this Atlas, holding an ink-pot instead of a globe, was not at all positive: the workmanship lacks definition, indeed it is rather crude, and the use of a support for a bronze, in the tree trunk between the giant’s legs, is hard to explain. It suggests the artist was not aware of the benefits of fusing in bronze, unless he intended to fully reproduce the statue in marble, including its support.
