Short description
This statue was attributed by Pollak to Massimiliano Soldani. More recently, Santangelo attributed it to an artist working in a style very similar to that of Mazza around 1700. The way in which the bronze was sculpted suggests that it was made in Bologna in the first half of the 17th century. Some simplifications in the moulding as well as the formal and aristocratic figure profile suggest the hand of one of Mazza's immediate successors, such as Angelo Gabriello Piò, although we possess no other works in bronze by him.
