Short description
This small group has been tentatively attributed, by Pollak, to Ferdinando Tacca, with reference to Tacca’s Bacchino fountain in Prato. Less convincingly, Santangelo believed the technique to indicate that it was of Florentine origin. However, Avery's attribution of this large and imaginative sculpture to Francesco Bertos is more plausible. The latter was responsible for many bronze group sculptures representing nude putti within shell-like baths.
