Short description
This unpublished statuette, which came from the Wurts collection (W 378), depicts a kneeling angel dressed in a long tunic, which was originally gilded (though now only the red clay is visible), that covers the legs, winding its way ‘erratically’ in the lower part; the features of the face are rather strong, framed by bobbed hair, with a fringe, whose locks are parallel and symmetrical. The statuette, which was intended to be hung, as the metal hook on the upper part of the head indicates, dates from 16th century Germany, but has been poorly preserved and has suffered considerable structural damage (both hands are missing).
