Short description
As with many wood sculptures now at Palazzo Venezia, this work also came from the collection of George Washington Wurts (1843-1928), an American diplomat, whose collection was donated by his wife Henriette Tower to the Italian state in 1933 (W 9361/2). This statuette, which forms a pair with a similar work identified with inv. no. PV 7539/2, depicts the bust of a woman with her arms folded, leaning against a pilaster. It is difficult to know the original purpose of the work, which has one hole in the head and one under the base, as well as a metal hook on the back.
